Voice app consent and data flows: explain what leaves the device
Voice interfaces need an understandable explanation of where content is processed. A data-flow review connects the implementation to the interface, privacy information and retention choices, so the user’s decision is meaningful rather than decorative.
Inventory data at each stage
Separate raw audio, recognized text, generated speech, attachments, account identifiers and usage records. Mark which items stay on the device, reach your server or go to an external processor. Include error reports and analytics, since these may contain content unintentionally. A list of vendors is not enough; the important question is what each vendor receives during the specific action the user is about to take.
Distinguish collection from temporary processing
Retention and purpose depend on your configuration, contracts and the provider’s actual controls. Do not assume an account has a special retention arrangement because an API key works or a marketing page mentions one. Record the evidence used for each declaration. Where settings cannot be verified, keep the uncertainty visible and choose a description that does not understate the data sent.
Place explanations near the relevant decision
A microphone permission prompt describes access to hardware, not necessarily disclosure to an AI provider. Explain external processing before the affected feature is used and offer a clear route back to the choice if the person initially declines. Product design should address what remains available after refusal. A subscription purchase should not silently hide an essential processing requirement that the user discovers only afterward.
Connect deletion to the data inventory
Identify what the application can delete, what is retained for a stated reason and what is managed by an external purchase provider. Account deletion and cancellation of an Apple subscription are distinct actions. A deletion screen should explain the distinction without discouraging the request. Test whether content caches, derived indexes and backend records follow the documented behavior rather than only clearing the visible local screen.
Review declarations against a real build
Compare interface text, network behavior, server configuration and store disclosures for the release being submitted. Separate prospective features from live behavior. This is an engineering evidence exercise; legal obligations and final policy wording may need qualified review in the markets you serve. Avoid presenting a template as a determination that the product complies with every jurisdiction or every store interpretation.
Data-flow review inputs
- Provide a trace of one complete voice task with content redacted, plus the names of services that receive audio or derived text.
- Identify which provider account settings have actually been inspected and which retention statements remain unverified.
- Test declining consent, returning to settings and changing that choice later; the resulting processing behavior should match the explanation shown to the user.
Deliver a maintainable map
The output should identify fields, destinations, purposes, retention owners and changes that require another review. Arte Soft’s published GPT Realtime Assistant offers a concrete voice product context, while your processing agreements and account controls remain specific to your project. A good handover lets a future developer add a provider or diagnostic event without accidentally making the interface and privacy information contradict what the application actually sends.
