Choosing a WebRTC development company: ask for connection evidence
A successful call on office Wi-Fi is a starting point, not proof of a dependable communication product. Evaluate a WebRTC partner by how it explains failed connections, relay fallback and real-device recovery.
Describe the communication product precisely
A one-to-one voice call, group video meeting, data channel and live support session have different requirements. State the expected participants, platforms, geography and privacy constraints. Clarify whether calls need recording, moderation, background behavior or browser interoperability. These decisions influence topology and operations, so a proposal that begins with a universal framework recommendation before asking about them is missing important context.
Ask for the connection lifecycle
A credible plan explains identity, signaling, ICE candidate exchange, connectivity checks, media flow and teardown. WebRTC does not remove the need for an application backend. Ask how a call moves from invitation to connected media and which component owns each transition. Failed calls should produce a diagnosable state rather than a spinner that eventually disappears without indicating why.
Expect relay support in the design
Some network combinations require a TURN relay. Discuss reachability, authentication, capacity and failure modes before treating P2P as a cost promise. Direct connection rates depend on the audience and measured network conditions; no responsible proposal can establish your percentage from an unrelated test. Budget for fallback and retain enough diagnostic information to understand actual candidate selection after launch.
Request a representative test matrix
Include different home networks, mobile data, restrictive environments and transitions between them. Test call setup, audio in both directions, video when required and reconnection. Ask whether the partner can show candidate types, timing and media statistics with sensitive fields redacted. A polished video demonstrates presentation; a trace and repeatable procedure show how failures will be investigated.
Compare delivery and ownership
Clarify who controls signaling code, relay accounts, mobile signing, deployment credentials and monitoring. Ask how dependency upgrades and OS changes will be handled. Separate a prototype from a production service and define the documentation needed for another engineer to operate it. A lower initial build cost can be misleading when nobody has priced relay usage, incident response or a required media-server component.
Partner evaluation exercise
- Ask the proposed team to explain a failed synthetic call from both endpoints without relying on a personal recording of the conversation.
- Request separate evidence for direct connectivity and a forced-relay fallback, including how the selected path was established.
- Have the proposal identify backend and operational responsibilities explicitly, so a transport library is not mistaken for a complete calling product.
Use portfolio examples with accurate boundaries
Arte Soft has a published realtime voice product, GPT Realtime Assistant, and separate Wonek communication engineering research. Those are contexts for a technical discussion, not an audited guarantee for a new network population. A focused discovery should produce the intended topology, network test plan, observability requirements and a phased delivery boundary. Judge the proposed partner on those concrete outputs rather than broad claims that all calls will become direct.
Relevant Arte Soft work
Wonek — communication engineering R&D, not a shipped or audited messaging product is our own product or engineering project. It provides context for the work we discuss here; it is not a claim of identical results for every client deployment.
