A mobile app privacy data-flow audit before declarations are published
Privacy labels are an output of understanding the product, not a substitute for that work. A technical data-flow audit identifies what leaves the device, where it goes, why it is processed and how long it remains. The result should support accurate owner-approved declarations for a specific release.
The decision to make
Inventory first-party code, server endpoints, third-party SDKs and optional features. A microphone permission does not explain whether audio stays local or is sent to a provider. Likewise, an anonymous identifier can still connect purchases and usage to one profile. Describe the actual flow rather than assuming that the absence of a name means no data is collected.
Separate facts established from code, configuration and provider settings. Retention arrangements cannot always be proven from an API key or a marketing statement. Where a provider setting matters, request evidence from the organization that owns the account. Keep uncertainty visible instead of selecting a more attractive privacy label without support.
A useful scope of work
The engagement should deliver a data inventory, diagram or flow table, evidence references and a discrepancy list. Map data types to purposes and account linkage, and identify consent or control points in the interface. Review logs, crash tooling and advertising integrations as well as obvious user content. Background SDK activity can change the declaration even when the primary feature is local.
Compare the findings with store privacy answers, privacy policy, permission descriptions and user-facing claims. Prepare corrections for owner review; public legal declarations should not be published as an automatic side effect of a code audit. For a changed release, document the difference so later maintainers can see why a declaration was added or removed.
Acceptance checks to agree before delivery
A privacy audit should leave an inspectable chain from a public declaration to technical evidence. Review uncertain provider settings explicitly rather than guessing. These checks keep optional flows, SDK collection and release-specific behavior visible, while preserving the responsible owner’s decision about publishing policies and store privacy answers.
- Trace each declared data type to an implemented flow or a documented provider configuration for the release.
- Identify data sent only after optional consent separately from data required for the primary feature.
- Check logs and third-party SDKs for collection that is absent from the product’s current privacy copy.
- Record unresolved questions and obtain the responsible owner’s approval before publishing revised public declarations.
Constraints and what to send us
Send the app build, backend routes, SDK list, current policy and access to relevant provider settings through suitable roles. A technical audit is not legal advice or a certification of compliance. It should avoid both unsupported reassurance and speculative data categories. The deliverable must distinguish verified behavior from provider claims and configuration still awaiting confirmation.
Our own product reference and a starting engagement
Technical privacy inventory and release-copy reconciliation. GPT Realtime Assistant is an owned voice product whose processing choices provide a concrete discussion context. A public listing alone does not establish retention details. Your audit should follow the exact application and organization settings that process your users’ information.
