Fixing Restore Purchases without duplicating credits or losing access
Restore Purchases problems often come from mixing two kinds of state: App Store entitlement and the application’s own customer data. A button cannot repair an undefined ownership policy. Start by identifying which product was bought, which Apple account owns it and how the app associates that purchase with its records.
The decision to make
Non-consumable access and active subscriptions are not the same as spent consumable credits. StoreKit can expose current entitlements, but that is not a complete ledger of what an app has already delivered and consumed. Recreating every historical credit grant during restore can inflate a balance; ignoring verified access can lock out a legitimate customer.
Investigate the exact sequence that fails: reinstall, another device, app-account change or an interrupted purchase. Determine whether the app automatically refreshes entitlements and whether backend linkage survives the expected account model. An anonymous device-bound profile needs an explicit policy for continuity; a restore action should not pretend it can reconstruct unrelated local records.
A useful scope of work
The repair scope should trace purchase verification, entitlement refresh, user-triggered synchronization and server association. Keep transaction identifiers so the same purchase cannot create a second grant. If a deliberate restore invokes App Store synchronization, explain any system authentication prompt. Do not make customers authenticate repeatedly during ordinary launches just because the restore implementation is convenient.
Prepare a matrix for subscription, non-consumable and consumable behavior. Include a customer who has access but no local cache, an expired plan and a purchase already applied to a backend balance. The interface must distinguish restored access from restored application content. When identity cannot be matched safely, offer a clear support outcome rather than silently merging people’s data.
Acceptance checks to agree before delivery
Restoration tests must identify the product type and the account sequence. Review supported entitlement recovery separately from application content and spent credits. These checks prevent a reassuring success message from hiding missing access, duplicate grants or a promise to recover data that the product never stored outside the device.
- Reinstall under the intended Apple account and recover the supported entitlement without making a second purchase.
- Trigger restore repeatedly and confirm that already delivered consumable credits are not granted again.
- Change the application account where supported and verify the documented policy for ownership and linkage.
- Show a truthful result for expired or unavailable products instead of always displaying a success message.
Constraints and what to send us
Send product types, transaction examples with sensitive details removed, backend account rules and the failing device sequence. StoreKit behavior differs from a locally cached premium flag. A restore repair should not promise recovery of files that were never backed up. Define the supported continuity outcome explicitly, then test it using the appropriate store environment.
Our own product reference and a starting engagement
Purchase restoration investigation and repair. GPT Realtime Assistant is a public owned product with paid access and credits, providing relevant portfolio context. Your restoration policy still needs its own account and ledger rules. An initial engagement can trace one failing purchase and produce a verified, idempotent recovery path.
