How to translate a conversation with LingoVela

A useful translation starts with a clear language pair and one person speaking at a time.

Before you start

Choose a translation mode supported by your installed app version, device and languages. Voice translation needs microphone permission and an active monthly subscription. OpenAI online mode needs internet and AI credits; Private Cloud Compute needs internet, a compatible Apple Intelligence device and available Apple usage quota. On-device speech translation needs compatible downloaded translation and speech models. Ask the other person before processing their speech.

Set up the conversation

Use the translation controls to choose a language for each speaker. Check the pair before you begin; the interface language and the two spoken languages are separate choices.

  1. Choose the first speaker's language and the second speaker's language.
  2. Start the session and allow microphone access if iOS asks.
  3. Let one person speak a short sentence, then pause for the translation.
  4. Read the original and translated words on screen. End the session when you are finished.

Make the words easier to understand

Move away from background noise, keep the microphone unobstructed and avoid speaking over the other person. Repeat names and numbers slowly. If a translation seems wrong, rephrase it and confirm the meaning with the other speaker.
